.IN Registry and Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) :
The Registry for the country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) Name .IN is being managed by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) since 2005. To offer .IN domain name registrations to end users, Registrars have been accredited worldwide. It has in turn also helped in proliferation of Web hosting in the country and Indian language content in the Internet. More than 2.1 million .IN Domain Names have been registered till January, 2020. Two Data Centers have been established in Delhi and Mumbai towards disaster management and to maintain uptime.
Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs): IDN’s in Hindi, Bodo, Dogri, Konkani, Maithili, Marathi, Nepali Sindhi, Bangali, Gujarati, Manipuri, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu languages were launched during the year 2014-15. NIXI is ready to launch IDNs in all remaining languages (Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, Sanskrit, and Santali in Devanagari Script and Kashmiri & Sindhi in Perso-Arabic Script).
